Matas is a roofer, not a hero. When a highway wreck and a red curve in the sky drop him onto the side of a forgotten mountain, there's no prophecy waiting for him—only stone, hunger, and
a System that records his every choice instead of explaining any of them
.
Samhal survives because a buried crystal Heart keeps the worst luck off its people, quietly paying out Probability Debt so roofs don't fall and dungeon doors don't explode. Now that Heart is humming off‑beat, debt is coming due—and every "near miss" the System forgives has to be paid in blood or stone, somewhere, by someone.
Drafted as a wall scout, Matas earns his bunk the only way he knows how: reading bad load paths before they kill someone and letting a hostile System wire more omen into his bones every time the village needs an "active participant."
To get anyone out before the Heart fails and the rust‑choir of ten thousand trapped souls wakes, Matas will have to become exactly what this world fears—an honor‑bound Omen‑Step engineer who decides which debts get paid, and whose names get written on the ledger.
