Publishing a great story is only the beginning. Readers also need an easy way to find it. This page explains every way a story can be discovered on NovelCult, so readers know where to look and authors know which surfaces their work can appear on.

The genres we host

NovelCult welcomes a wide range of genres and styles, because every reader has different tastes and every writer has a unique choice of writing. The catalogue currently spans:

  • Fantasy
  • Romance
  • Action
  • Adventure
  • Mystery
  • Thriller
  • Science Fiction
  • Horror
  • Slice of Life
  • Historical Fiction
  • Supernatural
  • Cultivation
  • LitRPG
  • Mafia
  • Billionaire
  • Werewolf
  • Fanfiction

Readers can explore stories based on their interests, while authors can share the worlds they have created. If you want to understand what a genre actually involves before picking one, the genre guides explain each one in plain language.

Browsing by genre and tag

Every genre has its own hub at /explore/genre/{genre}, and every tag has one at /explore/tag/{tag}. These pages collect the stories carrying that genre or tag and are the most direct route into a specific corner of the catalogue.

Genres describe the broad category a story belongs to. Tags are finer-grained and author-applied, describing tropes, settings, and content within it. A story usually carries several of both.

Filtering and sorting on Explore

Explore is the full catalogue with filters applied on top. You can narrow by:

  • Genre and tag
  • Completion status, such as ongoing or completed
  • Content rating
  • Novel type
  • Story length
  • Average rating

And you can order the results by trending, rating, view count, newest, or most recently updated.

Filter and sort combinations are not separately indexed by search engines, so a filtered view is a tool for you rather than a page to link to. The curated hubs below are the stable, linkable versions.

Curated hubs

A set of hubs is maintained as first-class pages rather than filter combinations:

  • Trending
  • Best Rated
  • Most Viewed
  • New
  • Recently Updated
  • Most Chapters
  • Ongoing
  • Completed

These can also combine with a genre or tag, so a hub like completed fantasy has its own stable address.

The homepage

The homepage shows a hero banner followed by novel rails (Continue reading, top picks, recently updated / new releases, and genre or tag rails), with a genre pill row linking into Explore. Rankings live on their own page rather than a homepage tab, and fanfiction is browsed through Explore.

Search runs from the header on every page and matches novel titles as you type. It is the fastest route when you already know what you are looking for.

Following and your library

Once you have found something worth keeping:

  • Follow an author to hear about their new work.
  • Save a novel to your library to track it and pick up where you left off.
  • Build collections to group saved novels however you like.
  • Your feed collects new chapters from the stories and authors you follow.

Readers who are not signed in can still save novels and build collections; that library lives on your device and merges into your account if you sign up later.

Collections

Collections are reader-made lists of novels. They have their own pages and can be shared, which makes them a genuine discovery route in their own right, particularly for finding stories through readers whose taste you trust.

What this means for authors

If you want your work to be found, the practical levers are:

  • Tag and categorise accurately. Genre and tag hubs are the main browsing route, and a mis-tagged story is invisible to the readers actually looking for it.
  • Write a real description. It is what readers judge from on every hub, rail, and search result.
  • Update on a schedule you can keep. Recently Updated and the ongoing hubs both reward consistency, and readers weigh update frequency when deciding whether to start an ongoing story.
  • Earn ratings and reviews honestly. Best Rated and the ranking surfaces are built from them.

The writing guides cover the craft side of all four. For the mechanics of publishing and scheduling chapters, see publishing and formatting.
