Author Promotion Points on NovelCult

WEB NOVEL MARKETING GUIDES

Author Promotion Points reward real marketing work across social platforms and help the team decide which novels get official exposure. Not a licence to spam.

Marketing your novel also helps the NovelCult team identify authors who are working to build an audience around their stories.

To recognize that effort, NovelCult can use an Author Promotion Points system. The system rewards authors for promoting their NovelCult novels across social media, communities, and other legitimate reader-facing platforms.

The more consistently an author promotes their work and engages with readers, the more promotion points their novel can accumulate.

These points can then be used by the NovelCult team to help determine which novels receive additional official promotion and priority exposure.

How do the points work?

1. Reddit

+2 points per promotional post

Authors can earn points by sharing their NovelCult novel in relevant subreddits where self-promotion is permitted, designated promotional threads, and individual Reddit posts where the rules allow it.

The post should contain the NovelCult novel link and follow the specific subreddit's rules.

Example: My progression-fantasy novel is now available on NovelCult...

We reward: +2 points.

Do not spam the same subreddit or post promotional content where it isn't permitted.

2. Discord

NovelCult link in your Discord bio: +1 point per month

Authors can add their NovelCult author profile or novel link to their Discord profile/bio. This rewards authors who keep their NovelCult presence visible to their existing communities.

Promoting in a Discord server: +1 or more points

Points can be awarded based on server size, community activity, engagement, whether an @everyone or appropriate announcement was used, number of meaningful interactions, relevance of the community to the novel

A highly active community where an author engages with readers may receive more points than a small or inactive server.

3. Facebook

+1 point per promotional post

Authors can earn points for sharing their NovelCult novel through relevant Facebook groups, author communities, reader communities, and their individual facebook profile/page

The group must permit promotional posts. A post should include the NovelCult link.

4. Instagram

+1 point per regular post

+2 points per reel and collaboration

Instagram promotion can include novel announcements, character posts, quotes, cover posts, story-related content, reels, collaborations with other creators/authors.

A reel or collaboration receives additional points because these formats can potentially reach readers beyond the author's existing followers.

5. YouTube

+3 points per video with good engagement

Authors can earn +3 points for a YouTube video that meaningfully promotes their NovelCult novel.

The emphasis is on good engagement, rather than simply uploading a video containing a link.

Examples include book recommendation videos, author vlogs, novel introductions, story discussions, writing videos featuring the novel, shorts or long videos.

The NovelCult link should be included in the description or video information.

6. X / Twitter

+1 point per post

Authors can earn points for posts that promote their NovelCult novel. Avoid repeatedly posting the same promotional message.

7. Other Publishing Platforms

+3 to +5 points

Authors can also receive points for mentioning their NovelCult novel link on other platforms where they already publish or maintain an author presence.

Examples include Royal Road, Tapas, Wattpad, and other legitimate publishing platforms in author profiles, book descriptions, author bios etc.

The number of points can vary according to reader engagement and visibility.

For example:

+3 points
A mention in a good profile or synopsis with limited engagement.

+4 points
A well-positioned mention receiving good reader interaction.

+5 points
A highly visible mention receiving strong engagement or reader interaction.

The goal is to put the novel in front of real readers.

How does promotion priority work?

Promotion points are intended to recognize author effort and audience engagement. At regular intervals, the NovelCult team in discord tickets can review the accumulated points across participating novels.

Join the NovelCult discord → Verify as author by sharing the author dashboard stats → Get the NovelCult authors discord link → Raise ticket for support team, and share the screenshots or links to the promotions and one of the team members will reward points!

The novels with the strongest promotion activity and engagement can receive higher priority for official NovelCult promotional opportunities.

This may include opportunities such as featured novel placements, social-media promotion, author spotlights, community features, promotional campaigns, and other official NovelCult marketing opportunities

Example

Imagine three authors:

Author A — 42 points
Actively promoted across Reddit, Facebook, Instagram and Discord.

Author B — 18 points
Occasionally shares their novel.

Author C — 7 points
Has very little promotional activity.

If all three novels meet the requirements for promotion, Author A's novel would have a stronger priority position because the author has consistent effort in bringing attention to their work.

Quality matters more than spam

The points system is not intended to encourage spam. Posting the same link repeatedly, joining irrelevant communities, or creating low-quality promotional posts does not create a healthy readership.

Authors should always follow each platform's rules, follow subreddit promotion policies, avoid spam, avoid fake engagement, avoid buying followers or interactions, avoid misleading readers, promote in communities relevant to their genre, and focus on good reader engagement.

NovelCult may review suspicious, duplicate, automated, or AI-generated activities before awarding points. The purpose of the system is to reward real promotional effort.
