Two years ago, humanity launched a spacecraft to study the mysterious barrier enclosing the Earth and Sun. The mission ended in disaster. The spacecraft struck the barrier and exploded, leaving behind a crack. Something seeped through. It called itself Zen. As Zen spread across the world, humanity awakened strange powers. Some gained abilities beyond imagination. Others gained only enough strength to survive another day. But Zen wasn't the greatest disaster. People began to vanish. Without warning. Without a trace. The phenomenon became known as the Disappearance Effect. It comes in cycles. Each time it returns, it grows stronger. Each cycle leaves fewer survivors behind. Under a starless sky and in a world racing toward its doom, seventeen-year-old Riven Stirenok struggles to survive. Smart, cunning, and reckless enough to attempt things no sane person would ever consider, Riven repeatedly throws himself into impossible situations just to stay alive. Even he doesn't understand his own mind. Or the strange ability awakening within him.
