In the kingdom of Ashbourne, magic is everything in this world. For seventeen-year-old Alistar Fenwick, that's a major problem. Every test he has ever taken has returned the same result: Mana Detection: Negative.
In a world where power determines worth, Alistar is an anomaly, an outcast, a young man seemingly incapable of using even the simplest of spell. Yet against all logic, he receives an acceptance letter from the kingdom's most prestigious school, a place that trains mages, scholars, and future heroes of the kingdom.
As he prepares to leave behind the quiet life of the Crimson Tavern, Alistar finds himself haunted by small fragments of the past: recurring dreams, an old scar that shouldn't even exist, letters from a childhood friend he hasn't seen even in years, and a crimson moon that makes something weird within him.
Meanwhile, far beyond the academy's walls, ancient forces begin to move. Secrets buried for over a decade are starting to resurface, and the truth behind Alistar's existence may be far more dangerous than anyone realizes.
At Crimson Academy, where every student is expected to wield magic, one boy with none at all may become the centre of a mystery that threatens to change everything.
Some mistakes are meant to be corrected. Others reshape the world.
